In a courtroom drama as to the ongoing paternity verification of late singer Mohbad’s son Liam, Joseph Aloba, the grieving father of the singer, appeared before the Ikorodu Magistrate Court today, reiterating his steadfast demand for a DNA.

Aloba declared that his son’s long-overdue burial will proceed only upon the release of the test results, a condition that has prolonged the singer’s rest in a morgue for over two years since his tragic death. “Mohbad will be buried immediately after the DNA test is done,” he said.

However, mutual rejections of proposed testing facilities, including the University College Hospital in Ibadan and Lagoon Hospitals in Lagos, stalled progress. Omowunmi’s legal team suggested neutral alternatives like Eko Hospital and Reddington Hospital.

Aloba noted that even a positive result would not end his legal pursuits, vowing to sue Omowunmi over alleged exposure of the then-five-month-old Liam to harmful environments, including music events with secondhand smoke. The family has also barred Omowunmi from using the Aloba surname in public until paternity is confirmed.

After an untimely passing on, in September 12, 2023, the 27-year-old rapper’s death according to police investigations, described it as a severe allergic reaction to an injection administered by an auxiliary nurse.

The singer, formerly signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Music label, had sought treatment at his Lekki residence for an ear infection stemming from an altercation with childhood friend Primeboy.

Injections of tetanus toxoid, paracetamol, and ceftriaxone triggered immediate symptoms of vomiting, convulsions, and goosebumps, leading to his collapse. Rushed to Perez Medcare Hospital, Mohbad was pronounced dead on arrival, with no vital signs detected and rigor mortis already setting in.

His hasty burial the next day, on September 13, 2023, in Ikorodu driven by cultural urgencies and morgue rejections ignited nationwide outrage under the #Justice4MohBad banner.

Protests erupted across Lagos and beyond, demanding probes into alleged bullying and assaults by industry figures like Naira Marley and Sam Larry, whom Mohbad had publicly accused in viral videos. The body was exhumed nine days later for autopsy, but pathologists at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital reported inconclusive results in May 2024, citing advanced decomposition of the body, though a possible fatal anaphylactic shock was noted.
