Nollywood actor Chief Imo has stirred debate online after speaking out against the growing belief that marriage and having children should not be considered life achievements.

In a video that has been making the rounds on social media, the actor expressed surprise at the increasing number of people who argue that personal success should not be tied to marriage or parenthood.

Chief Imo maintained that such views overlook the effort, sacrifices and commitment involved in building and raising a family.

According to him, becoming a spouse or a parent carries responsibilities that deserve recognition and appreciation.

He said: “What did I hear you say? Wait a minute, what did you just say? That marriage is not an achievement? Bearing children is not an achievement?”

He continued: “And you are here opening your dirty mouth to say marriage and having children is not an achievement. Then why did they have you? Why are you bearing their name? Keep on deceiving yourself. Keep on talking rubbish.”

He said: “Na Ogun go kill you. Na Amadioha go strike that your stupid mouth where you open dey talk say marriage is not an achievement or bearing children is not an achievement.”

He said:”Is that what you’re saying? But your parents had you. You are proud of your parents. Every week you visit home to see your parents. You go home to make them happy.”

The actor questioned why some people dismiss marriage and childbearing as unimportant milestones while continuing to benefit from the care, support and sacrifices made by their own parents throughout their lives.

He also criticised those promoting the idea, arguing that they risk giving younger generations the impression that family life holds little value or significance.

He added: “Your mother suffered. You come here and keep deceiving young people, telling them that having children of your own that will take care of you, as you’re taking care of your parents now, is not an achievement.”

During the video, Chief Imo passionately defended the role parents play in society, praising them for the sacrifices they make to raise and provide for their children.

He pointed out that many successful people eventually give back to their parents by supporting them financially and improving their quality of life through gifts, care and other forms of assistance.
