An alleged Nigerian gay man has appealed for help for himself and his partner, claiming that they no longer feel safe in the country because of their sexuality.
In a video shared online, the man described the difficult situation he and his partner are allegedly facing, saying fear for their safety had forced them to withdraw from their normal lives.
According to him, they have stopped going out, while he has also stopped going to work because they are afraid of what could happen to them.
He said: “Nigeria is no longer safe for us.”
The man also opened up about his experience growing up, claiming that his family abandoned him when he was just 13 years old after they discovered his sexuality.
He further alleged that some of his siblings had threatened to kill him if they ever found him.
He said his partner had faced a similar experience, alleging that his family had also abandoned him because of his sexuality.
However, the two men, he claimed, now have no family support or other reliable source of help to turn to.
He said:“We have stopped going out. I have stopped going to work because we are scared for our lives.”
The man appealed to members of the public, organisations and anyone capable of helping them leave Nigeria.
Speaking further, he said they were not necessarily seeking to travel far, but would be willing to relocate to a neighbouring country where they could live without constantly fearing for their safety.

He added: “We just need help to leave Nigeria. Even if it is a neighbouring country, we are willing to go somewhere we can be safe.”
