Popular Nigerian comedian Bellak Comedy has sparked intense debate after urging organisers of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) to postpone the upcoming season until after the 2027 general elections.

In a widely circulated video message, Bellak Comedy stated: “Big Brother Naija, I want to thank you for entertaining Nigerians, but at this point, you need to put a stop to it. We are battling with mental health issues due to the current situation in the country, and the show has become a distraction for us. If you truly mean well for Nigerians, you should postpone it until after the 2027 elections.”

The plea comes as MultiChoice prepares for Season 11, with auditions recently concluded and the live show expected to kick off in late July 2026.

While the show remains one of Africa’s biggest entertainment phenomena, generating massive revenue and social media buzz, critics like Bellak argue it distracts from urgent national priorities amid economic hardship, inflation, and insecurity.

Reactions have been sharply divided. Supporters of the call see it as a timely call for reflection and accountability ahead of elections, while defenders insist entertainment provides necessary relief and should not be paused, comparing it to sports or other leisure activities.

With the reality show reunion currently generating buzz on social media, it is evident some netizens are on standby for this year’s drama, fights and laughter the show is bringing.
