Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison Celebrated By Ghanaian Writers

Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison, who passed on earlier this month, was honoured by Ghanaian writers at the e-Ananse Public Library in Accra, Ghana.

The Nobel Laureate who passed on, on the 5th of August, 2019, received an outpouring of emotion from the writers, despite been born and bred in the United States was beloved by many across the world, especially black writers whose works she greatly influenced.

The e-Ananse library where the event took place, opened this year, and it is a new concept for public libraries in Ghana with a focus on African heritage and identity, both in its design and its contents.

The writers who were present at the event and shared their inspiration were; Kofi Akpabli (two-time winner of the CNN-Multichoice African Journalist for Arts and Culture Awards), Nana Damoah (author of Tales from Different Tails), Bisi Adjapon (author of “of Women and Frogs”), Mamle Wolo (author of “The Kaya Girl”), and Nana Ekua Brew-Hammond (author of “Powder Necklace). Apart from discussing Toni Morrison’s work and its influence, they also read from their favourite passages of the books by the writer. The evening was moderated by Nii Ayikwei Parkes.
