One Suspect Detained Over Death of Gospel Singer, Three Others in Lagos Studio

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the deaths of a gospel singer and three others who were found dead in a music studio in the Ajah area of Lagos State.

The victims were identified as gospel artist Matthew Ogundele, Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and blogger Matthew Awosanya, also known as JoesTv. Their bodies were found last Wednesday in a studio at the HFP Shopping Complex on the Abraham Adesanya stretch of Ajah.

The Police said the studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola, reported the incident. He told officers the victims were part of a gospel music group invited to perform at a birthday praise event organised by his wife.

The group had concluded their session late last Tuesday and decided to stay overnight in the studio. The following morning, the studio owner returned to find the door locked from the inside. Upon forcing it open, he discovered the four deceased.

Investigators said there were no visible signs of violence on the bodies. The victims were confirmed dead at Mainland Hospital in Yaba, and their remains were taken to the Mainland General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

Officer SP Abimbola Adebisi said:“The incident was first reported at the Ajah Division but later transferred to SCID. One suspect, identified as the organiser of the event, is currently in custody. Investigation is ongoing, and we are awaiting the autopsy report.”

The incident has sparked many reactions on social media. Friends, colleagues, and members of the gospel music community are calling for a full investigation and justice for the victims.
