PHOTO: Kristen Stewart Transforms into Princess Diana for ‘Spencer’
Months after news broke that Kristen Stewart would be playing Princess Diana in the upcoming film, Spencer; the first photo of the actress in character has been released—and the resemblance is uncanny.
In the photo, Kristen Stewart sports a red coat, blond hair, and a black hat with netting over her face. Her resemblance of the late Princess of Wales is simply undeniable, down to even her forlorn facial expression.
Ahead of the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death, the movie is coming out in 2022. Spencer will centre on a December 1991 weekend as Princess Diana spends Christmas with the British royal family. This is when she makes a significant decision to end her marriage to Prince Charles.
“December, 1991: The Prince and Princess of Wales’ marriage has long since grown cold,” a press release reads. “Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at Sandringham Estate. There’s eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. This year, things will be a whole lot different.”
“Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life,” the Twilight star said in a statement.
“It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts; which starts with her given name, Spencer. It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Princess Diana strives to hold onto what the name Spencer means to her,” Stewart said.
Princess Diana and Prince Charles separated in 1992 after 11 years of marriage. The royal couple got divorced in 1996; with Charles’ infidelity and non-chalance as the reason.
