The Nigerian content creation community is in mourning following the sudden death of beloved TikTok star Monique Pearls, whose real name was Monica Okafor Owuunaka.
The 30 year old content creator rose to prominence through her deeply emotional and authentic videos centered on motherhood, family life, and everyday experiences in modern Nigeria.

Originally from Cross River State, she was based in Abuja, where she built a strong and loyal followers by sharing heartfelt moments with her young son, Lael, and Precious, a young girl her family brought from the village who became a central figure in her content.
In an official announcement shared on her social media account (@monique_pearls), the family expressed their profound grief:
“It is with deep pain and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, daughter, mother, sister, and friend, Monica Oma Owuunaka.”
The family has requested prayers, love, and strength for all those mourning her loss. They also noted that further details regarding burial arrangements will be communicated in due course. No official cause of death has been released.
She is survived by her husband and their young son, Lael.
