Rihanna is ready to do her part during the coronavirus pandemic, and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is especially grateful for her donation of personal protective equipment to the state’s overloaded hospitals.

Cuomo tweeted Thursday (March 26) to praise Rihanna and generous corporations on behalf of the state of New York; which is, unfortunately, an epicenter of the global virus after accounting for nearly 5% of the world’s confirmed cases.

And this isn’t the Barbados-born superstar’s only major donation to fight the pandemic. She already donated $5 million through her Clara Lionel Foundation on Monday; to various organizations on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S., the Caribbean, and Africa.

The NY governor’s announcement on his official website did not specify which equipment Rihanna contributed. However, commonly requested items by statewide hospitals include N95 masks, safety goggles, gloves, sanitary wipes, and full-length gowns.

Additionally, Cuomo thanked morning-show host Kelly Ripa and her husband, actor Mark Consuelos, for donating $1 million.

“New York is fighting a war against this virus and we need all the help we can get. The generosity of these companies, organizations, and individuals, and many others coming forward every day to offer support; will play a critical role in our mission to bolster our hospital surge capacity, support frontline workers and get people the help they need,” he wrote.

“On behalf of the family of New York, I am deeply grateful for their generosity. We will get through this difficult time together, with the kindness, strength, and tenacity that New York is popular for.”
