Seun Kuti Breaks Silence over Threat to Close Afrika Shrine

Seun Kuti, Afro-beat singer, and son of late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has broken silence on the threat from Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to close Afrika Shrine.

The Mohammed Adamu-led police force had threatened to close the Afrika Shrine over the hosting of a programme to evaluate the achievement, lessons and tasks arising from the recent #EndSARS protest.

The programme, which is organised by Seun, was originally scheduled to hold on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at the Afrika Shrine, Ikeja.

Reacting to the threat, Seun, in a post on his Instagram page, lamented how the government called his older sister, Yeni Kuti, and threatened to close the shrine should he go ahead with the meeting.

His post read: “But I will still go ahead with all the other organizations to launch THE MOVEMENT OF THE PEOPLE tomorrow and start our political resistance to the tyranny of this oppressive regime. Slide left and you will see the flier. This is a meeting, just a meeting of organizations and they are basically banning the right of association.

“Why are they afraid of the people organising? What is democratic about this act? The last time we tried to launch the government quickly called curfew and this time they have used threat but you can’t stop the will of the people. #getthesax #liberationgeneration #wenodoagain #endoppression.”
