Seven Styling Tips for Plus Size Women

BY SAMINU MACHUNGA

Forget everything you know. Being plus size does not and will not keep you bound to any archaic fashion rules.

Fashion is unique to the wearer, and the wearer can make anything work.

We’ve come up with seven styling tips for plus size women

Know your shape

Not all plus size women are shaped the same. Knowing your shape will help you to pick the right  outfits instead of relying on  stereotypes.

Own your tummy

Because of society’s standards of beauty, plus size women often make efforts to hide their belly, most times with shape wear.

This often results in folds popping out in places that didn’t have folds to begin with. Rather than creating unnecessary attention to your gut,  be proud of your curves and pick fitting outfits that accentuate them.

You don’t need to wear oversized clothes to hide your curvy shape.

Prioritize your comfort

Never confine yourself to rules. Always wear what makes you happy and what makes you feel comfortable.

Invest in the right underwear

The right underwear will serve as a foundation for the right outfit. First order of business should be to find a plus size lingerie store locally as most lingerie stores don’t cater to all body types. Avoid bras or panties that are tight and itchy, and you’re on the right track.

Have a go-to outfit

When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a fit and flare dress. Fit and flare dresses are flattering on all body types. So have at least one.

Own a wide belt

A wide belt should be a must-have accessory. Wide belts help to put a look together. They also help to hide extra fabric if you don’t have time to get your outfit adjusted by a tailor.

Don’t limit your inspiration to plus size women

You can dream of designer dresses made for slim women. You can take inspiration from the Rihannas of the world and make it work to your body type.
