Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has spoken candidly about a deeply personal decision she made decades ago concerning motherhood and family size.
During a recent conversation on her YouTube platform, Shaffy Bello TV, the actress reflected on her journey as a mother and revealed that she chose to undergo a medical procedure to prevent herself from having more children.
According to Bello, she made the decision approximately 26 years ago after concluding that she did not wish to have a large family.
“My ex-husband had to beg me to have another one. I didn’t want a lot of children. I wanted to stop,” she said.

She explained that although her former husband had hoped they would expand their family further, she remained resolute in her choice. Bello disclosed that she underwent a tubal ligation, a procedure in which the fallopian tubes are tied to permanently prevent pregnancy. The operation, she said, was performed through her navel.

“So they went through my navel, went in there, did what they needed to do, and they tied it up. That was it. They closed my eggs,” she said.

Describing the experience, the actress noted that doctors accessed her reproductive organs through her navel and carried out the necessary procedure to stop the release of eggs required for conception.
Bello emphasised that she was certain about the kind of family she wanted and did not feel compelled to have more children than she desired.
In a light-hearted remark, Bello added that if she were ever to become pregnant again after the procedure, she would consider it nothing short of miraculous.
“I’ve always said to myself that after tying my tubes, if I get pregnant, I will feel like Mary, it’s a holy child,” Bello said.
