The Head of Public Affairs at the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Williams Oseghale, has issued a strong warning to parents over the growing culture of internet fraud among young Nigerians.
Speaking during a public engagement in Benin City, Oseghale expressed his concern about reports suggesting that some parents are actively encouraging their children to engage in cybercrime, commonly referred to as “Yahoo”.
“There was a time when there was this story of Yahoo Mothers Association. Parents, stop encouraging your children to do Yahoo,” he said.
Oseghale went on to stress that parental influence plays a critical role in shaping the values and decisions of young people.
According to him, any form of support or silent approval for fraudulent activities not only damages the country’s image but also exposes young individuals to legal consequences that could permanently affect their future.
Oseghale further noted that the EFCC remains committed to tackling internet fraud and other financial crimes, adding that community cooperation is essential in the fight against corruption.
