Tade Ogidan’s Gold Statue Makes a Haul at 2019 BON Awards

The brightest stars in television gathered in the Coronation Hall of the Kano State Government House, Saturday, December 14 for the 11th edition of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards.

Veteran filmmaker, Tade Ogidan and his latest film “Gold Statue” stole the show and triumphed with an impressive five wins: Director of the Year, Movie of the Year, Movie with the Best Production Design, Film With The Best Use of Sound and Best Use of Make-up in a Movie.

Gabriel Afolayan clinched the coveted Best Actor of the Year Award for his portrayal of Adewale Esho in “Gold Statue,” making it six total wins for the film.

Other big wins at the BON awards went to Femi Adebayo’s film, ‘Diamond In The Sky’ which earned ‘Movie With The Best Editing’ and ‘Movie with the Best Cinematography’. Moreover, the movie, Majele also scooped two awards –‘Movie With the Best Screenplay’ and ‘Best Use of Costume in a Movie’.

The evening also delivered a surprise win for Tamara Etaimo, who took home the ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ (English) award for her role in the movie Thick Skinned.

Other notable winners include Ibrahim Yekini who won Best Actor in a Leading Role (Yoruba) for his role in The Return of Kesari while Adebimpe Oyebade picked Best Actress in a Leading Role (Yoruba) for her role in the movie 0707. Best Actor in a Leading Role (Hausa) went to Abba Elmustapha for his role in the movie,Hauwa Kulu.

Hadiza Gabon and Hassana Muhammad won Best Actress in a Leading Role (Hausa) in the movie, Hauwa Kulu.

The highest point of the BON awards was the presentation of the ‘Lifetime Achievement Awards’ to veteran thespian Abubakar Sadiq Daba by the Chief Host and Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.

However, while presenting the awards to the ailing seasoned actor and broadcaster, Governor Ganduje appreciated the immense talent of the honoree and congratulated him for the well deserving recognition.
