Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has paid a touching tribute to her late colleague and friend, Alexx Ekubo, by releasing their 2015 hit movie, The First Lady, on her YouTube channel, Omoni Oboli TV.
The film has crossed 368,000 views within 16 hours of upload.
The First Lady is a romantic drama in which Omoni Oboli stars as Michelle, a woman seeking a better life, who encounters Kenechi (played by Alexx Ekubo), a wealthy heir turned child by his scheming uncle.
The movie, which marked the beginning of Omoni and Alexx’s close friendship over 11-12 years ago, also features Yvonne Jegede and other stars.

On the morning of Ekubo’s burial yesterday, Oboli took to her Instagram page to announce the special release. After speaking with his family, she uploaded the full movie at around 5pm, with all proceeds going directly to support them.
In her emotional post, she wrote: “We’ve laid our bestie Alexx to rest to the glory of God… In his memory and to honor his legacy, I am releasing our movie THE FIRST LADY… The proceeds will go to the family so please help us share widely. Alexx Ekubo! You came, You saw! You conquered! You are forever in our hearts bestie.”
Fans have responded overwhelmingly, flooding the comments with love and support while streaming the movie in his honour.
