There have been questions about the role of Nigerian celebrities in speaking against bad governance and underwhelming leadership. While several Nigerian celebrities, such as Burna Boy, have spoken against bad governance in Nigeria, he has affiliated with the ruling party and stomped on his fans during live events.

Some celebrities speak against bad governance, and there are those who don’t care. Meanwhile, some dine with the government and are ready to sell out their fellow citizens for a position at the table just so they can feast.

Nigerians have taken to social media to complain about the ruling party; they have dragged the leaders both online and offline for making the life of the citizens worse than it was a decade ago. Amid the outburst and demand for better services, a coterie of Nigerian celebrities have shown support for the ruling party. The celebrities have preferred to betray their own fans to collect favours from those in power.

Yoruba movie actors sang and praised the ruling party, disregarding those who pay to watch their movies. Nigerians were left heartbroken upon seeing their faves singing the panegyrics of those who are looking to make the life of Nigerians tedious. Amid the chaos and pandemonium ongoing in Nigeria, most celebrities prefer to turn a blind eyes to the reality and embrace the fairy-tale of building castles in the sky.

Instead of urging the government to build bridges, create jobs and create various venues to make the lives of Nigerians better, they prefer to lay in bed with the leaders and fill their own pocket, just so they can abscond from the country and go to a country that is more developed. Most Nigerian celebrities have no ideology that is aimed at creating long lasting values for generations to come, all they want and desire is to feast with the rulers and make themselves rich.

They want to post beautiful photos on Instagram and like Burna Boy, stampede their followers. Nigerian celebrities need to do better and this is just a wake up call to all of them, there is an opportunity to use their platform to call out their oppressors.
