Nigerian rapper Ycee has sparked intense online debate with his pointed critique of what he sees as a declining emphasis on academic excellence in Nigerian society.
In a recent appearance on The Afropolitan Podcast, the marine biology graduate expressed deep concern over evolving cultural values.
“Nigerian society is no longer celebrating academic excellence. It’s not even Yahoo culture anymore; now we have a ‘Peller culture.’ This ‘Olodo’ uprising we are witnessing is terrible,” Ycee stated.
He argued that society is increasingly accommodating ignorance to avoid making people feel bad, resulting in a situation in which those lacking formal education appear to constitute the majority.
Ycee highlighted the massive attack on Nigeria’s educational system, referencing ongoing challenges from activities such as kidnappings and Boko Haram attacks.

Ycee’s comments specifically reference the rising prominence of influencers like streamer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, whose unconventional content and high engagement on platforms like TikTok have earned him significant fame despite limited formal education.
