Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham shared that it took her years to start earning good money from acting, even though she joined Nollywood in 2001.
In a video, she talked about the financial struggles she went through early in her career, explaining that actors did not earn much back then.

“I just started making money 8 years ago, and I’ve been in the film industry since 2001. Back then, we acted and got peanuts, but we did it just to survive,” she said.
Her comments offer a glimpse into the reality of Nollywood’s early years when many actors worked long hours for little pay and often took roles simply to make ends meet.

Born Olutoyin Aimakhu, Toyin started her career in Yoruba language films after being introduced to the industry by actress Bukky Wright. She later gained wider recognition through the Alakada film series, which helped establish her as one of Nollywood’s most popular stars.

Over the years, Toyin has built a successful career as both an actress and producer, starring in and producing films such as The Ghost and the Tout, Fate of Alakada, Ijakumo, Malaika, Oversabi Aunty and Alakada: Bad and Boujee.
Her career grew significantly in the late 2010s as she expanded into mainstream cinema productions, becoming one of the industry’s most consistent box office draws.
