‘Twilight’ Author Announces Release Date for ‘Midnight Sun’

Stephenie Meyer, American novelist, has announced she would be publishing Midnight Sun, a prequel to Twilight; her bestselling vampire series, on August 4.

The award-winning author broke the news on Monday when she appeared on ‘Good Morning America’, a television show on ABC.

Midnight Sun follows the love story between Edward Cullen (vampire) and Bella Swan (human) depicted in Twilight, but from the former’s point of view.

Meyer’s statement

Last week, the 46-year-old author had teased fans about the release of the much-awaited project on her website, using a countdown timer to Monday when it was officially revealed.

Midnight Sun release date: Stephenie Meyer

“I am very excited to finally, finally announce the release of Midnight Sun on 4 August. It’s a crazy time right now and I wasn’t sure it was the right time to put this book out. But some of you have been waiting for just so so long it didn’t seem right to make you wait any more;” she had said in the statement.

“Though I didn’t have time to work on it right away, the idea of letting Edward have his chance to speak stuck with me. I couldn’t shake it. I found myself thinking his words in the middle of the night. And jotting down phrases he would use while I was waiting in line at the post office. As soon as I finished my real work, I sat down and let Edward get his say.”

The development comes about 12 years after Meyer had suspended work on the project; following a reported leak of an unedited manuscript of the book online in 2008.

Since the release of the first book, Twilight, in 2005, the series has cultivated millions of fans worldwide and generated five major movies, starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. The first was “Twilight” in 2008, followed by “New Moon,” “Eclipse,” “Breaking Dawn — Part I;” and 2012’s “Breaking Dawn — Part 2” which was the last chapter in the multimillion-dollar series.
