Nollywood actress, filmmaker and screenwriter Uche Jombo has opened up about the early days of her career, revealing that she often wrote movie scripts without receiving payment or official credit in order to secure acting opportunities.
Jombo, who has built a successful career in the Nigerian film industry as an actress, producer and writer, shared the experience while reflecting on the lengths she had to go to at the beginning of her journey in Nollywood.
According to the 46-year-old actress, she would write scripts for producers without being paid and would use the opportunity to create roles that would allow her to feature in the resulting movies.

She said: “Back in the day, I did a lot of script writing with no pay and no credit. I would write a script and give it to producers and tell them I wrote a particular role for myself. That way, I get featured in the movie.”
However, her revelation offers a glimpse into the determination and creativity she relied on while trying to establish herself in a highly competitive entertainment industry.
Rather than waiting for opportunities to come her way, Jombo found a way to create opportunities for herself by combining her writing skills with her passion for acting.
