The UK government has blocked Kanye West, known as Ye, from entering the country to headline the Wireless Festival in Finsbury Park this July, citing his history of antisemitic remarks.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood acted after intense pressure from Jewish organisations, politicians, and the public. Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the original booking as “deeply concerning,” stressing that antisemitism must be confronted firmly.
He added that Britain must remain safe for Jewish communities. Major sponsors like Pepsi and Diageo withdrew support.
In response to the backlash, West had issued a statement offering to meet members of Britain’s Jewish community before any final decision.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews expressed willingness to meet, but only on the condition of cancelling the performances. The Campaign Against Antisemitism warned of protests and urged the ban, arguing his presence was not “conducive to the public good.”
Festival promoter Festival Republic had defended the booking, noting West’s music is already widely available in the UK and asserting his legal right to perform. No performances will now take place.
