Nigerian singer and wife of Adekunle Gold, Simi has stirred intense conversations on social media after delivering a strong message urging men to hold one another accountable for harmful behavior, particularly in relation to sexual violence.
In a recent statement shared online, Simi emphasised that many men create protective environments for friends who engage in inappropriate or predatory actions, often distancing themselves by claiming they are not personally involved.

She wrote: “Men should hold other men accountable. Many of you create safe spaces for your friends’ perverted and wicked behavior because “I’m not like that”. I take a fucking pepper spray when I walk outside alone or with my daughter.
“Do you think I’m scared of other women? If you’re not a rapist and people calling out rapists bother you, you need to sit and have a conversation with yourself. Because why are you triggered if you’re not guilty???”
She argued that such attitudes indirectly enable misconduct and contribute to a culture of silence. Stressing her personal fears, the singer revealed that she carries pepper spray when walking alone or even when accompanied by her daughter, highlighting the everyday safety concerns many women face.

Simi questioned why some men feel offended when rapists are publicly criticised, suggesting that such reactions warrant self-reflection. According to her, individuals who are not guilty should not feel threatened by conversations that condemn sexual violence. Her remarks were intended to provoke introspection and encourage men to actively challenge unacceptable behaviour within their social circles.
