Why I’m Not Afraid of Dying -Falz

Popular rapper, Folarin Falana otherwise known as Falz, has revealed why he’s not afraid of losing his life to the fight against police brutality.

Speaking with British-Iranian journalist, Christiane Amanpour, on CNN, Falz said death doesn’t scare him because nothing guarantees him a long-life as a youth in Nigeria.

His words: “I’m not afraid for my life. I’m not I’m not afraid for my life because where we are right now, I feel like I could easily die by anything else anyway.

“I don’t even know what to start from. We have non-existent healthcare for example, we have a seriously high level of poverty, there is unemployment. We are in a critical State because of much corruption and mismanagement of funds we continue to see on a daily basis.

“So if I don’t come out to complain about the state of things, I can sit down or have an accident on my way to work, or something and die as a result of the country’s enormous challenges.

“Healthcare is nothing to write home about in Nigeria. Our hospital is not well equipped, such that people have to travel abroad to get proper healthcare. So what kind of Life am I leaving? Anyway, why should I be afraid of dying? I’m gonna die anyway, so what’s the point.”

Falz is one of the many celebrities who have been very vocal against police brutality in Nigeria, particularly of recent. Amongst some of the moves he has made, is an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, where he sought the reconstitution of the National Human Rights Commissions board.

Prior to the time he wrote the president, he led hundreds of #EndSARS protesters in the streets, alongside Runtown.
