Nollywood actor Jide Awobona has spoken out against the growing trend of comparing pregnant women, following reactions to the recent maternity photos shared by Temi Otedola.
The actress and fashion influencer shared stunning white-themed maternity photographs on social media, accompanied by a heartfelt message about motherhood. Since then, many admirers have praised how gracefully she has carried her pregnancy.
However, Awobona noted that some social media users have taken the opportunity to compare Temi’s pregnancy journey with those of other women, often using her experience to shame expectant mothers who may be struggling physically or emotionally.

Addressing the issue on Instagram, the actor stressed that no two pregnancies are the same and urged people to stop making unfair comparisons.
According to him, every woman experiences pregnancy differently, and even the same woman can have completely different experiences across multiple pregnancies.
He pointed out that many people only see what women choose to share publicly, while the unseen challenges and sacrifices often remain hidden.

Sharing examples from his personal observations, Awobona recalled women who remained active throughout their pregnancies, noting that individual experiences vary greatly and should never be used as a standard for judging others.

In his statement, he wrote:
“Please Read!. Firstly, I wish Temi a safe delivery and pray for a smooth and beautiful journey into motherhood. It has honestly been beautiful watching how gracefully and beautifully she has carried her pregnancy, and I truly admire it.
He continued:” While seeing some of the trending conversations around it, I also came across some really disappointing comments… people using her experience to shame other women, calling some women dramatic and acting as though every pregnancy experience should look the same.
He said: ” The truth is, pregnancy journeys are different. Every woman experiences pregnancy differently, and sometimes, the same woman can react differently to different pregnancies she carries.
He added:”What many people do not understand is that a woman often shows you only what she chooses for the world to see. Strength comes in different forms, and not every struggle is visible.”
The actor further highlighted the resilience of many women during pregnancy, recounting stories of expectant mothers who continued with their daily activities despite carrying advanced pregnancies.
Awobona concluded by calling on the public to show greater empathy towards women and mothers, noting that pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood involve immense strength, sacrifice, pain, and resilience.
