Wizkid, Burna Boy bag 2022 Grammy awards nominations

Nigerian music stars, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Made Kuti have been nominated for the 2022 Grammy Awards.

The Recording Academy the list of nominations for the 2022 edition of the Awards in a live stream on Tuesday.

Wizkid bagged nomination in the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ category for 2020 song ‘Essence’, featuring Tems.

Essence became the first Nigerian song to feature in Billboards Hot 100 chart in July.

In August, ‘Essence’ was the most searched song on a US entertainment app, Shazam.

Recently, Essence also became the first Nigerian song to go platinum in the US. Accepting his plaque, Wizkid said, “We have a platinum record and I just want to say thank you to everyone involved in this, from Tems to the producers Legendury Beatz. These are my brothers from way back. Thanks to the whole team for believing in the dreams from early [on]. To my fans, I appreciate you all and I pray God blesses all of you.”

Also nominated in the category is ‘Pa Pa Pa’ by Femi Kuti and ‘Do Yourself’ by Angelique Kidjo and Burna Boy.

Wizkid’s ‘Made In Lagos’ album and ‘Legacy +’ by Femi and Made Kuti bagged nominations in the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category.

The 2022 Grammys’ main event hold on January 31, 2022, at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.

It will aired live on the CBS Television Network.
