Women As Agents of Social Change – Di’ja

Singer Hadiza Blell, better known as Di’ja has advised Nigerian women to be true agents of social liberty and justice; having voice in the society and influencing policy.

Speaking at the National Conference on Shrinking Social Space in Abuja during the week, the singer stated women should ignore all forms of oppressive restrictions within the society on their way of life.

According to Di’ja “the reason voices of women in the north are rarely heard is because they are not encouraged to talk.”

“A lot of times, people see women from the north as not fighting for themselves. They are actually doing so but their voices are not heard because the messages are not being passed through the right media. And that is why I like social media because everybody has a platform.”

She maintained the Northern women can’t afford to fold their arms and be quite.

“Now, people have access to social media and they can air their views. We just can’t be quiet. Being quiet doesn’t really do anything.”

Recently, EElive reported the Mavin Records singer, Di’ja landed her first lead role in the Hausa movie industry, Kannywood. She took a break from her music career, until recently when she relaunched it.
