‘Young, Famous and African’: Peace Hyde to produce Netflix’s reality series starring Annie Idibia, Swanky Jerry, others

Award-winning media personality Peace Hyde will executively produce Netflix’s first-ever African reality TV series. The reality show is titled Young, Famous and African.

Hyde revealed the exciting news in an Instagram post. The British-Ghanaian is a highly celebrated tv host, journalist, entrepreneur, and activist. She also stated that she is a creator and executive producer of the unscripted original series. Adelaide Joshua-Hill and Martin Asare-Amankwa will also produce the series.

Young, Famous and African will debut on the streaming platform soon. The show is a glitzy reality series aka a real-life soap opera that follows a group of young, affluent, and famous A-list media personalities. These personalities hail from three African countries.

In her post about the eight-episode show, she wrote:

“We are making African history, telling OUR STORIES, and I am so honoured, excited, and READY! It’s been a lot of sleepless nights and early mornings, but the dream has finally paid off.

“Excited to finally share that I am a creator and executive producer of the first-ever Netflix Original African Reality TV series Young, Famous and African starring this phenomenal superstar cast. Get ready, World. The Africans are coming.”

The forthcoming Netflix series will feature some of Africa’s top talents from Nigeria, South Africa and Tanzania. Some of the featured stars include Nigeria’s Annie Macaulay Idibia, stylist Swanky Jerry, Tanzania’s Zari Hassan, Diamond Platnumz, and also South Africa’s Nadia Nakai, Khanyi Mbau, media personality Andile Ncube, Naked DJ.

It is unclear if Hyde will headline the show, as she has with some of her acclaimed television shows. 

Peace Hyde started her media career in Ghana as the host of Friday Night Live on GH One and MTN Hitmaker.

She quickly rose to become one of Africa’s most successful media exports globally by creating and producing groundbreaking hit shows like the two leading flagship talk shows, Forbes Africa’s My Worst Day with Peace Hyde (3 seasons), the only show that speaks to Africa’s billionaires and Forbes Woman Africa’s Against the Odds (2 seasons) on the CNBC Africa channel on DSTV.

Hyde’s work features on many popular sites, like CNN, Black Enterprise, Huffington Post, Ebony, and also Fox News. The United Nations Most Influential People of African Decent lists in 2018, 2019, and 2020 mention her name. It tagged her as one of the 100 most influential young people in Africa. Young, Famous and African will premiere globally in 190 countries and over 200 million subscribers. The show will launch in early 2022.
