Chioma Ifemeludike, who was the African Action Congress (AAC) senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, has decided not to run in the 2027 senatorial election.
She said her decision was based on her personal beliefs and recent political events.
Ifemeludike, who is also the AAC Deputy National Chairperson for the South-East, announced her withdrawal in a letter to the party’s Acting National Chairperson.
Journalists received the letter on Friday.
She got the party’s ticket through a consensus during the AAC primary election in May.

In her letter, she told the party’s National Working Committee that she no longer wants to run for the Anambra Central Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general election.
She also requested that the party take her name off all records and activities related to the senatorial ticket.
In her letter, she informed the party’s National Working Committee that she no longer wishes to run for the Anambra Central Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general election.
She also asked the party to remove her name from all records and activities connected to the senatorial ticket.
She said her decision followed careful thought and was based on her principles, her commitment to justice and accountability, and her wish to protect vulnerable people in society.
She wrote, “I hereby formally notify the National Working Committee and the leadership of the African Action Congress of my decision to withdraw my interest and aspiration to contest for the office of Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District under the platform of our great party in the 2027 General Elections.
“This decision has been taken after careful reflection and in accordance with my personal convictions, principles, and commitment to justice, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable members of society.”

She added that recent events made her more determined to withdraw from the race.
Ifemeludike mentioned Doris Ogala Umezurike’s involvement in the case of Baby Testimony and the child’s mother, who has a physical disability, and said the situation made her concerned.
She said she believes the way the case was handled made the child’s mother suffer longer, led to public embarrassment for her, and raised doubts about whether the child was really getting justice.
She explained that these concerns led her to give up her political ambitions and focus on speaking out for justice, accountability, and protecting vulnerable people in society.
Ifemeludike again asked the party to remove her name from all records and lists related to the Anambra Central senatorial candidacy.
