Book Review: The Danfo Driver in All of Us by Niran Adedokun

Reviewer: Ifunenya Isoje

Title of Book: The Danfo driver in all of us

Author: Niran Adedokun

When I first heard the title of the book, the first thing I said was “what sort of attack on Lagosians is this?” But yet, it spiked my interest to read the book as I wondered what it could be throwing jabs at.

On reading, I went through a series of emotions; shock, anger, fear, and pain.

The writer’s style of writing is unique as he takes you through the problems of the country without overwhelming you; motivates you without sounding ridiculous. What struck me was the level of research he must have done as he wrote the stories; like he was present at the event or had been a victim of it all. He attacked every sector, every gender, every institution; and showed that the problem came from us all and the solution comes from us all.

Reading this book was definitely a wake-up call for me as it made me realize that Nigeria is ours and only ours, it’s ours to build or to destroy, the attitude of “e no happen to me, so e no concern me” has to end. I for one definitely saw the “danfo driver” in me and I intend to come down from that broken down “danfo”.

Who should read?

  • Every Nigerian seeking change and development in the country.
  • Students of history.
  • Youths.
  • Adults.
  • Children from age 10 with guidance.

My Critique

It was an awesome and informative read, but on okada book, there are a few omissions and typographical errors.

In conclusion, I have definitely come out of my ignorance and I am better informed and encouraged to fight for my country, Nigeria.
