Did Drake finally announce a release date for Certified Lover Boy?

Drake fans have had to wait the entirety of 2021 for his new album, Certified Lover Boy to drop.

The Canadian superstar initially planned to release the album in January but announced later that month that it would be delayed. Drake gave his reason for the delay as a leg injury he had sustained which required surgery.

However, it looks like all that waiting might be finally over.

On Friday morning, the 34-year-old seemed to interrupt ESPN‘s SportsCenter program with a short commercial. Stylized in the form of a broadcast hack, the video appeared to show a man with a piece of cardboard. On the cardboard was a clear, handwritten message: “CLB September 3.”

Certified Lover Boy is the rapper’s sixth studio album, following 2018’s Scorpion. Though he’s kept his fans occupied with releases like his 2019 compilation, Care Package, 2020 mixtape, Dark Lane Demo Tapes and Scary Hours 2 EP, which arrived in March.

On July 30, Drake confirmed that the album was finished. During an interview on his OVO Sound radio, he said

“Album’s cooked. Looking forward to delivering it to you. I hope everybody in the world is blessed. I hope everybody has their drinks, everyone’s locked in. Good vibes and good energy for this weekend. OVO, we aim for the head, we don’t aim to please. Certified Lover Boy on the way, and that’s for anyone in the way.”

The release date comes as Drake has seemingly reignited his feud with Kanye West. Some fans believe Kanye is waiting to drop the upcoming album DONDA at the same time as CLB. So we just might be getting a face off on the charts like the way Kanye’s Graduation and 50 Cent’s Curtis did back in 2007.
