Kanye West seeks court approval to legally change name to Ye

Kanye West, US singer, is legally seeking to change his name to Ye.

According to documents obtained by The Associated Press, the rapper formally filed a petition before a Los Angeles Superior Court to change his name from Kanye Omari West to Ye.

If approved by the court, there will be no middle or last name.

West says ‘personal’ reasons behind his decision to change his name, without providing further details.

The rapper, who has used the moniker as a nickname for years, named his eighth studio album Ye and even goes by the abbreviated title on Twitter.

In 2018, the rapper had in a tweet hinted about the change of name.

He had written ‘The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.’
