The curtains rose on the 11th edition of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) on Sunday night as 24 housemates were unveiled to compete for the coveted N160 million grand prize in the “Show Ya Sef” season.
While millions of viewers were captivated by the colourful opening ceremony and the introduction of the contestants, the real marvel behind the reality show lies in the technology, engineering and human resources that power one of Africa’s biggest television productions.
Ahead of the season premiere, organisers, MultiChoice Nigeria, revealed that preparations for the latest edition began as far back as November 2025, underscoring the extensive planning required to bring the annual reality television spectacle to life.

According to the company, the production process spans about eight months, covering concept development, architectural design, procurement, construction and technical installations.
The transformation of the purpose-built BBNaija house from an empty structure into a world-class television set, however, was completed within just two months by an entirely Nigerian workforce.
At the heart of the production is a sophisticated surveillance and broadcast system designed to capture every conversation, strategy, disagreement and celebration around the clock.
The BBNaija house is equipped with 52 robotic pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras, seven handheld cameras, 59 microphones, 36 antenna blades and 19 speakers, ensuring uninterrupted coverage of activities inside the house throughout the competition.
Located adjacent to the live television studio in Lagos, the custom-built facility is designed to accommodate more than 20 housemates while providing producers with seamless camera coverage from virtually every corner of the house.
MultiChoice explained that the house is not static but undergoes major redesigns before every season to improve production quality and enhance the viewing experience for audiences across Africa.
One of the most significant redesigns came in 2024 when the iconic staircase was relocated to the centre of the living room while the bedrooms were moved upstairs.
According to the organisers, the changes were made to improve camera sightlines, increase interactions among housemates and create more engaging television moments.
The company said every structural modification is carefully guided by production requirements, including camera positioning, visibility and the natural movement of contestants within the house.
Beyond its entertainment value, BBNaija has also become a major economic driver within Nigeria’s creative industry.
MultiChoice disclosed that the production creates more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs annually, engaging professionals across several sectors.
The construction phase alone provides work for carpenters, electricians, civil engineers, decorators, painters, interior designers and other skilled artisans responsible for transforming the house into the iconic reality television set.
Once the show begins, employment extends to hundreds of production personnel, including camera operators, technical crews, master control room staff, audio engineers, editors, housekeeping personnel, caterers, task facilitators, security operatives and other support staff who ensure the smooth running of the 24-hour production.
The company described BBNaija as much more than a television programme, saying it has evolved into a home-grown creative ecosystem that showcases Nigerian expertise in engineering, construction, broadcasting, design and entertainment.
The latest season officially got underway on Sunday evening with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu introducing the 24 housemates during a colourful live premiere watched by millions across Africa.
The opening show featured vibrant performances, dazzling stage displays and the long-awaited unveiling of contestants drawn from different parts of Nigeria and beyond, each bringing distinct personalities, ambitions and life experiences into the famous BBNaija house.
Over the coming weeks, the housemates will compete in a series of tasks, games and sponsored challenges designed to test their creativity, resilience, teamwork and entertainment value.
As in previous editions, they will also navigate alliances, friendships, rivalries, romantic relationships and strategic gameplay while facing weekly nominations and possible eviction, with viewers ultimately deciding their fate through periodic voting.
The “Show Ya Sef” edition is expected to deliver the blend of drama, suspense and entertainment that has made BBNaija one of the continent’s most watched reality television shows.
Since its original debut in 2006 and relaunch in 2017, the franchise has remained a leading platform for discovering new talents, with many former housemates going on to establish successful careers in acting, music, broadcasting, entrepreneurship, content creation and brand influencing.
Industry observers also credit the reality show with making a significant contribution to Nigeria’s creative economy through large-scale content production, employment generation, advertising partnerships, tourism promotion and audience engagement.
The 24-hour live broadcast of the 2026 season is available on DStv Channel 198, GOtv Channel 49 and DStv Stream, while fans are expected to follow every twist and turn until one contestant emerges winner of the N160 million grand prize at the grand finale.
