Controversial politician and Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has responded to Afrobeats superstar Davido after the singer publicly insulted him with the words “Umu bingo” and “Fowl.”
The latest clash began when Davido mocked Omokri in an Instagram story, reacting to the latter’s Channels TV interview explaining his delayed resumption of duties in Mexico. Omokri attributed the delay to Mexico’s focus on co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a long, detailed open letter, Omokri expressed shock at the insult. “I was rather surprised by your response to my post. Most shocking is your insult. You are an international celebrity whom Nigeria is proud of. Coming to insult me… with such vulgar words should be beneath you,” he wrote.

The feud escalated after Omokri criticised Davido for wearing a customised jacket highlighting the names of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oyo State during a global FIFA World Cup countdown concert in Los Angeles. Omokri argued that such publicity helps terrorists more than it pressures the government for their release, citing Margaret Thatcher’s quote that “publicity is the oxygen of terrorism.”

Davido’s sharp response came days later, turning the exchange into a trending social media drama. Omokri also linked Davido’s reaction to the praise the singer received from Peter Obi. Davido is yet to issue a further response.
