Elon Musk’s first wife, Justine Musk, has opened up about the difficulties she says defined their marriage in a new documentary examining the life, career and controversies surrounding the billionaire.
Justine is featured in Musk, a nearly four-hour documentary directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 8, 2026, and is scheduled for theatrical release on October 16.
In the documentary, the billionaire’s first wife describes the relationship as one which she often felt belittled and insignificant. She said Musk’s frequent criticism made her question herself and revealed that she learned the term “gaslighting” through their relationship.

The Canadian author born Justine Wilson, also recalled their wedding in 2000, claiming that during their first dance, Musk told her he was the “alpha” in their relationship. Justine compared the way he allegedly spoke to her to how a boss might address an employee.
Their marriage lasted from 2000 to 2008, during which they had six children. Their first child, Nevada, died from sudden infant death syndrome at 10 weeks old in 2002.
Justine also revisited the tragedy in the documentary, disputing Musk’s account of who held their son during his final moments.
She further discussed the strained relationship between Musk and their transgender daughter, Vivian, claiming that he made little effort to repair their relationship.
Musk however, did not participate in the documentary, he dismissed it as a “hit piece.”
