“I’ve made mistakes in my life, I’ve been a thief, I’ve done very risky things and I’ve done ignorant things, very foolish things. In fact, I have no business being here with you tonight, but I guess there’s a purpose for my life.”
Charlie Boy explained that the book is his way of owning his full story, the mistakes, survival, and redemption, without leaving out the embarrassing details. He described 999 as a “terrible kind of book,” signalling a new chapter of peace and reflection after years of rebellion.
The activist also shared how surviving prostate cancer inspired him to encourage people to speak openly about their health challenges, breaking the culture of silence around men’s health issues. He added that with age, his priorities have shifted from confrontation to personal growth and service to humanity.
Despite Nigeria’s challenges, Charlie Boy remains hopeful, believing the country’s salvation lies in the hands of the youth.
