MAMA 2021 Postponed for Safety Sake

MTV Base, the organisers of MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA), have postponed the 2021 edition of the show.

The award, as stated in a mail to media houses, was postponed indefinitely.

The ceremony which was scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 20, 2021, in Kampala, Uganda, will no longer hold due to the “current health and safety challenges.”

“After careful consideration, MTV Base is concerned that the current health and safety challenges will significantly jeopardize the ability of the campaign to continue to achieve its objectives.

“MTV Base will keep fans posted. The 2021 MAMA Kampala is a virtual event. Strict adherence to health and safety protocols as specified by WHO have been adhered to throughout the production process,” the mail read.

Prior to this development, it was disclosed that Nigerian superstar, Wizkid had been billed to perform alongside South Africa’s Nasty C, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz

Other musicians who were also expected to perform at the event include Uganda’s Sheebah Karungi, Kenya’s Khaligraph JonesSuspect 95 from the Ivory Coast, Cape Verde’s Soraia Ramos, and São Tomé and Príncipe’s Calema.

This month would have however been the first time Uganda would host the event, which had been hosted in Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya.
