A 64-year-old Nigerian-born man, John Adesoye has caused a stir on social media after fulfilling his dream of becoming a registered nurse in the United Kingdom.

According to Adesoye, who grew up in Nigeria, he wanted his achievement to encourage others to pursue their ambitions regardless of age.

Before becoming a nurse, Adesoye previously worked as an electronics technician in Greece before relocating to the UK in 2013. He joined Southmead Hospital in Bristol as a healthcare assistant in 2014 and later completed a registered nurse degree apprenticeship at the University of the West of England while working at the hospital.

Explaining why he switched careers, Adesoye said helping people brings him greater satisfaction than repairing machines.

“When I was caring for electronic devices, I was happy when I could get broken devices working again. In my work in healthcare, when patients get better, it gives me great joy and satisfaction.”
