The story follows Adaeze, a young and introverted Nigerian student who possesses goddess-like powers. She needs to use her superpowers to lead a team of young warriors whose collective mission is to prevent an apocalyptic monster from destroying all of humanity.

Speaking about the new deal, Jacque shared; “I set out to create Adorned by Chi because I wanted to see myself, a young Nigerian-American woman, reflected in the genre I and many others enjoyed so much growing up. It’s been a joy crafting this world and I look forward to expanding my vision with the help of MWM in not only the current merchandise but animation, comics and more!”

“Adorned by Chi” borrows various elements from Nigerian Igbo culture and folklore was also reportedly inspired by the Japanese Magical Girl genre and aims to contribute stories of specifically African girlhood.

In a statement released by MWM Universe’s Morgan Kruger and Diana Williams, the pair said that “Jacque Aye’s fresh and nerdy approach to expanding manga and celebrating diversity is more important than ever. Her ability to weave a story and characters that resonate with both women and men in the shifting anime genre is impressive.”

Aye will attend the New York Comic-Con in a few days on October 5th.
