Police Arraign Naira Marley Over Violation of COVID-19 Rules

Controversial singer, Naira Marley has been arraigned before a Lagos State Special Offences Court at Ikeja for violating COVID-19 rules.

Recall that in June 2020, the singer was enmeshed in a heated controversy on social media after going against the Federal Government’s COVID-19 rules, which was instituted as a measure to curtail the spread of coronavirus.

Parts of the rule is a ban on interstate travel and social distancing in every gathering. But surprisingly to many, Naira Marley who was in April arrested for attending actress, Funke Akindele‘s husband, JJC Skillz‘s 43rd birthday party, performed at a ‘drive-in’ concert in Abuja.

Confirming that the singer was in court, Lagos state police command spokesperson, Bala Elkana said, “We are in court as we speak. He will be arraigned for violating the interstate travel order. That is the aspect that concerns Lagos State.”

Guardian however reports that the Tesumole singer has now been awarded a fine of N100,000, after pleading guilty to the charge.
