Social media has been set ablaze following the Ooni of Ife’s decision to honour Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, with the chieftaincy title Baba Awada Konge Oduwa, luxurious gifts, and a brand-new car.
Baba Ijesha, who visited the palace with his wife CEO Luminee, shared an emotional message of gratitude, describing the monarch’s gesture as “fatherly love” and expressing how humbled he felt as “a son of the soil.” The post quickly went viral.

Reactions remain deeply divided. Supporters hailed the honour as a powerful symbol of redemption. “This is pure headache for the haters,” one user declared, while others celebrated it as cultural forgiveness after the actor’s release from prison. Many praised the Ooni for showing mercy and embracing one of their own.

However, a significant section of netizens expressed outrage. Critics condemned the move, citing Baba Ijesha’s 2022 conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. “Ooni should not create problems for underage girls,” one X user wrote.
Others questioned the message it sends, calling it insensitive and disappointing from a revered traditional ruler.
The controversy has dominated online platforms with hashtags and debates trending. While some view it as a second chance well deserved, others insist certain actions should carry lasting consequences.
