Rape: Seyitan Babatayo Drops Case Against D’banj

Seyitan Babatayo, the lady who accused singer D’banj of raping her, has withdrawn her petition to the police.

This development emerged as the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) said it has been unable to establish a rape case against D’banj. Thus, the musician is cleared of the allegation.

Babatayo, in a letter, addressed to Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), through her lawyer, Olamide Omileye, stated that her intention to withdraw the petition against D’banj for raping her in 2018, was due to personal reasons.

“We hereby officially notify you of our client’s intention to withdraw and discontinue her petition against Mr. Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo aka D’Banj for personal reasons. Our client further humbly applies that the investigation and all other action that is currently being carried out by the police with respect to the statement,” the letter read partly.

Responding to the petition withdrawal, Umar Sanda, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, said prior to this development, the investigation had discontinued due to lack of evidence.

“In view of the foregoing facts, the investigation was discontinued as no substantial evidence to prove the allegation of rape against the suspect,” Sanda was quoted as saying.

Stand To End Rape Initiative otherwise known as STER, a social justice organisation and women advocates that has actively been in support of Babatayo’s quest for justice, however, stated the accuser decided to withdraw her petition without receiving any monetary compensation.

Recall that some weeks ago, D’banj was called out on social media and accused of rape. After over a week of silence, the singer responded, saying the rape allegation was false and an embarrassment to his wife.

Following D’banj’s broken of silence, there has been a series of developments on the matter. While Babatayo kept unraveling how the Emergency singer raped and intimidated her, D’banj repeatedly denied the accusation, and eventually slammed a N1.5bn lawsuit on her for reputational damage.
