Legendary broadcaster and media personality Frank Edoho has set social media abuzz after revealing that his monthly take-home pay during his first two years as the host of ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ was ₦160,000.
The veteran host noted that despite the modest salary, he had to maintain a high-class persona, donning expensive suits and acting as though he owned the vast fortunes he was giving away.
Edoho, who disclosed this during a recent media engagement, explained that the “celebrity lifestyle” often requires a level of performance that does not always align with one’s bank balance.

My first 2 years salary at the ‘Who wants to be a millionaire’ show was 160k Naira monthly but I had to put on a suit and acted like I own all the money”. He said.

However, the revelation did not sit well with many fans, who were quick to point out the massive disparity in purchasing power between 2004 and today.
Many took to social media to “fact-check” the host, arguing that ₦160,000 in the mid-2000s was actually a small fortune.
One commenter noted that a bag of rice in 2004 was below ₦8,000, while fuel prices were under ₦200 per litre, compared to today’s costs of ₦60,000 and over ₦1,000 respectively.
“Oga, that money could feed many families for two months back then,” one user replied.
Another fan calculated that his salary was equivalent to roughly $1,200 at the time, which would translate to over ₦1.6 million in today’s economy.
While Frank intended for the story to be a lesson in “fake it till you make it,” many Nigerians concluded that with a ₦160,000 salary in 2004, he was already living the dream.
