Seun Kuti: ‘Coronavirus Is A Wake-up Call For Nigeria’
As coronavirus lockdown continues in Nigeria, Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti has said the novel pandemic which has since been ravaging the world, is a wake-up call for the country.
In a post shared on his Instagram, the youngest son of famous afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, lamented that the Nigerian system has failed many professionals, leaving them to settle for menial jobs after years of studies in school.
He posted; “Where are the Nigerian Micro-biologists? Where are the Nigerian virologists?
“We’ve graduated thousands of them from the universities, but the Nigerian system has sent them to events planning, chefs, bakers, fashion designers…
“This is the Nigeria we have created. I think this coronavirus is a wake-up call, and I think we need to start reassessing what value really is in the world today.”

Since the outbreak of coronavirus in December 2019 in Wuhan, a Chinese city, over one million cases have been reported on a global scale.
While more than 62,000 persons have died as a result of the infectious disease around the world, no less than 242,000 people have recovered from the virus.
The pandemic which is fast-spreading across all nations and regions, is however crippling economies and rending thousands of people jobless.
As the world, including Nigeria battle to save itself from the disease, an inquisitive mind is asking if the self-styled African giant will improve in things that matter anytime soon?
