#SurvivingSophia trends as LA influencers are scammed off $11 Million
The trending hashtag, #SurvivingSophia exposes Canadian scammer, Sophia Nur.
On November 18, 2021, multiple influencers and celebrities shared their stories of being defrauded by the same person.
Sophia Nur is the young woman allegedly behind multiple scams worth about 11 million dollars. The young woman allegedly posed as celebrity assistants and managers in order to get into celebrity events and their houses, where she proceeds to “rob” them. She allegedly duped several influencers and celebs in Los Angeles’s popular social circles. According to multiple reports, Sophia posed as a victim with a sad story and also borrowed large amounts of money from LA’s biggest influencers, before disappearing.
What started the hashtag?
Celebs who had been scammed by Sophia Nur shared their stories on Clubhouse. Soon after, multiple Twitter users began to share their shocking #SurvivingSophia experiences.
“#SurvivingSophia she stole 11 million dollars by scamming her way into hotel rooms and lunches into LA’s popular social circle. Claimed she was pregnant with Jack Harlow but lives with Jeff Wittek? You all got scammed by the same person and never said a word to each other?” a Twitter user said.
Neither Jack Harlow or YouTuber, Jeff Wittek is yet to respond to the controversy. Other victims took to twitter to narrate their plights with Sophia the scammer. A photo of a user named Sophia M Nur also went viral. However, the profile was deleted prior to the popularity of the hashtag,
One of the victims shared their story of how Sophia lied to them saying that her mother had died. She urgently sought over $4000 for her funeral expenses. However, it turned out that the entire story was false and Sophia had duped others in a similar manner.
Victims of the alleged scammer, Sophia, share their stories
An anonymous victim revealed that they met Sophia on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood, LA, and had a casual conversation about being Somali. According to Sophia, her friends had ditched her. The user paid over $1000 to help pay for her flight ticket out of sympathy. Later she duped them $4000 more under the pretext of borrowing for her mother’s funeral.
Another victim – who goes by the username Camille on Twitter- narrated #SurvivingSophia story. The latter called Camille sobbing one night about having no money and nowhere to stay. Camille took pity on her, booked her a hotel and bought her a flight ticket. as Sophia promised to PayPal her the ‘borrowed money’. Camille further revealed that Miss Nur is Canadian and threatened to get her deported if she did not get her money back.
