The 2020 Sillerman First Book Prize For African Poets Is Set To Accept Entries

The 2020 Sillerman First Book Prize for African Poets is set to open for submission of manuscripts. Submissions will commence on the 15th of September, 2019 through 1st of December, 2019.

The Sillerman First Book Prize is an annual prize awarded to African poets for an unpublished poetry collection. It is one of the few poetry prizes which recognizes African poets. The prize worth $1,000 is made possible by the donations of philanthropists Laura and Robert F. X. Sillerman.

The 2020 Sillerman Prize accepts works in English and works translated into English. Manuscripts should be at least fifty pages, and eligible writers may submit more than one manuscript.

The African Poetry Book Fund Editorial Board, including Kwame Dawes, Chris Abani, Matthew Shenoda, John Keene, Gabeba Baderoon, Bernardine Evaristo, Phillippa Yaa de Villiers, and Aracelis Girmay will judge. The winner receives USD $1000 and book publication through the University of Nebraska Press and Amalion Press in Senegal.
