Viola Davis is set to play the former first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama in the upcoming showtime White House drama, ‘The First Lady’.
Michelle Pfeiffer and Gillian Anderson join Davis and also play former first ladies, Betty Ford and Eleanor Roosevelt. According to Showtime, the show will follow the personal and political lives of former presidents, Obama, Ford and Roosevelt. The show will trace “their journeys to Washington through an enlightening intimacy”.

Speaking about playing the former first lady, Davis said she felt very protective of Mrs Obama. She added, “It’s our job as actors not to judge whoever we are portraying, but I ended up thinking she’s just dope.” According to her, she also studied the First lady’s 2020 Netflix documentary to perfect her gestures.

The series creator is Aaron Cooley and it also boasts Emmy award winning director, Susanne Bier. Executive producers include Cathy Schulman, Viola Davis, Julius Tennon, Andrew Wang, Jeff Gaspin and Brad Kaplan.
The First Lady, will premiere exclusively on Showtime sometime in the first quarter of 2022.
