Veteran Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has once again reflected on the breakdown of his marriage, admitting that his intense focus on fatherhood came at the expense of his role as a husband.
In a widely shared clip from his appearance on #WithChude, Iyke recounted how the death of his mother led him to pour all his emotional energy into his son, leaving his wife feeling neglected.
“I lost my spark, and my wife suffered for it. I took all my love and attention and poured it into my son, leaving my wife behind,” Iyke said. “I became an excellent father but a woeful husband.”

He explained that after some time, his wife told him she could no longer recognise the man she married. Iyke admitted he was still grieving and healing, offering her the choice to stay or leave. The couple eventually parted ways amicably.
“She said she couldn’t. So we shook hands and parted as friends,” he added.
Iyke has previously described his marriage as having failed due to delayed grief and an obsessive focus on parenting following personal loss.
The actor, who has kept much of his personal life private, is known for his roles in numerous blockbuster Nollywood films. He currently describes his relationship status as “between married and single.”
