Wrap Up: From Joeboy’s Album to Regina Asika’s Nollywood Comeback

The week (Monday, January 18, to Saturday, January 23, 2021), was quite eventful. With music star, Joeboy‘s disclosure of his debut album title and the Nollywood actress, Regina Asika‘s comeback to Nollywood, it might have been hard to keep up with all the event.

It is in this light that eelive.ng is serving you with the best possible up-to-date information on entertainers, and this weekly wrap up brings you some of the things that made the news about them in the course of the week.

Popular singer, Joseph Akinfenwa-Donus also known as Joeboy, disclosed his debut album title.

As he premiered the video of Lonely, one of his 2020 hit singles, Joeboy stated that his highly-anticipated debut album will be named –Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic.

“Working on this project was life-changing — I met a version of myself I never knew before. The plan was to come up with a title that best describes love, without actually using the word love. Hence Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic. Because love is a perfect blend of beauty and magic,” he stated.

Popular singers, Waje and Ric Hassani both sparked an engagement rumour on social media.

Waje had shared a loved-up picture of her with Hassani, setting the social media abuzz.

The Oko Mi singer, who’s famous for living a private life, had taken to her Instagram page, on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, and shared a photo of herself and Hassani looking all loved up on a couch with the caption, “It’s time…????.”

In the photo, the pair were intimately captured with Hassani’s head resting on Waje’s laps, while the latter was seen playfully touching the former’s nose.

The photo caption also suggest that the two might actually be getting married or have only decided to make their relationship status public.

Burna Boy‘s Destiny, one of the hit songs on his African Giant album, made it to the playlist of the inauguration of the incoming United States President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

As Biden and Harris will be sworn in tomorrow (Wednesday, January 20, 2021), Destiny was selected to be among the 46-track playlist, which is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and Soundcloud.

A Kano State High Court (appeal division), on Thursday, January 21, 2021, declared the death sentence imposed on Yahya Sharif Aminu, a Kano-based singer, convicted for blasphemy, as invalid.

Eelive.ng had reported that Judge Khadi Aliyu Muhammad Kani of a Sharia court in the Hausawa Filin Hockey area of Kano, sentenced Sharif-Aminu to death for blasphemy.

The Kano-based singer was found guilty of blasphemy, after he circulated one of songs via WhatsApp.

The song, according to critics, praised an imam from the Tijaniya Muslim brotherhood to the extent it elevated him above the Prophet Muhammad.

American rappers, Lil Wayne and Kodak Black, on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, secured clemency from outgoing president, Donald Trump.

Trump on his final day in the office granted the rappers of charges before them.

Rapper and Big Brother Naija Season 5 winner Laycon performed on DJ Jimmy Jatt’s freestyle show Jimmy’s Jump Off.

During Jimmy Jatt’s freestyle show, Laycon did a rap verse on the production of Wizkid’s No Stress; with lyrics he had typed out on his phone.

In his rap verse, Laycon touched on a variety of topics from his time on the reality TV show to the Lekki tollgate massacre, and to, of course, the haters.

Nollywood actress, Regina Asika made her comeback into the movie-making industry, with a new movie project, WEB.

In a post on her Instagram page, Askia revealed that she will be playing the character of Olivia in the movie, while Ramsey Nouah will be starring in the movie as Desmond.

The 53-year-old, who also disclosed that it was her last day on set, commended the cast and other film stars who made the project a reality.
