Nollywood star Yul Edochie has expressed deep pain and disappointment following the passing of his colleague and friend, actor Alex Ekubo, who died at age 40 after battling cancer.
In an emotional post on X, Edochie, visibly shaken by the news, addressed the late actor affectionately as “Chief Ikuku.” He admitted he has “been cold” since learning of the demise and criticised the decision to keep his illness private from close friends.
“Ikuku you no do us well oo,” Edochie wrote. “You should have informed some of us your good friends, privately, that you were sick. We for come dey with you, everybody go off phone come. To spend time with you and give you strength.”

The actor lamented what he described as Ekubo’s style of “blanking everyone till death,” saying the pain inflicted on loved ones is “terrible.” He ended the message with broken heart emojis, reflecting the heartbreak felt by many in the industry.
Ekubo reportedly passed away on Monday night in Lagos, after a battle with advanced cancer. His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from colleagues across Nollywood.
