Yul Edochie: What I’ll Do If I Become President

Nigerian actor-cum-politician, Yul Edochie, has said that the first thing he’ll do if he becomes the President of Nigeria is to unite the county.

He brought this revelation to light in a recent interview with Vanguard where he discussed his political ambition and plans for 2023.

The actor who is a son to veteran actor, Pete Edochie also declared his intentions to run for President in 2023.

“First thing I’ll do if I become the President of Nigeria is to unite the country. At the moment, there’s no unity in Nigeria. And without unity, there can never be progress. I’ll hit the ground running immediately by assembling a competent team of credible men and women from the 36 states to work with me,” he said.

“Men and women who are fit for various positions irrespective of their tribes or religions. Not to keep favouring only one tribe. That way, every state will have a sense of belonging. The heads of all the parastatals will not be from only one tribe but from different tribes across the country. And yes, I intend to run for President in 2023.”

While reacting to criticism on social media after he called out Nigerian youths for meddling into the recent clash between Davido and Burna Boy in Ghana, the actor stated that “Nigerian youths waste much energy discussing insignificant issues.”

“Many Nigerian youths waste so much time and energy discussing issues of very little significance. They hardly sustain discussions that can make Nigeria progress. And for me, I’ll always tell the youths the truth. The truth will be bitter sometimes. The truth might even hurt me as well but I’ll always say the truth. So I’m not worried about being misinterpreted. I’ll keep saying the truth,” he said.

Yul Edochie rose to stardom in 2007 after featuring in the movie Wind of Glory alongside Genevieve Nnaji and Desmond Elliot. Since then, he has starred in over 50 movies including, Mysterious Family (2017) and Moms at War (2018).

In 2018, the actor declared his intention to run as President of Nigeria but didn’t go through with his plan.

“After due consideration & consultations, I will no longer run for President of Nigeria, 2019. To my supporters, worry not. I remain committed to building a new Nigeria that works for all, irrespective of class, tribe or religion. Together we shall achieve it. God bless,” he announced in a tweet.

On July 6, 2018, Yul Edochie, was appointed Senior Special Adviser on creative and entertainment media by the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano.
